I would like some thoughts concerning the optane vs NMVe ssd. I'm going to remove the HHD and put in a 1 TB ssd, I also have a 256 NMVe PCIe ssd. Should I remove the 16 gb optane for the NMVe or leave the optane and use the sata 1 TB ssd as my main drive. Any assistance wiould greatly be appreciated and I would like to hear from anyone who already owns this laptop. Mine is due tomorrow from amazon and I'm very excited to say the least.

Well I used to have an Omen that HP provides Experts to work with for a year and I also have had one of the models that can do Optane or NVME M.2 and a hard drive and I ran some experiments. A mechanical hard drive clocks at about 150 Mbps. A SATA SSD either 2.5 inch or M.2 will clock about 550 Mbps and an NVME M.2 can clock at somewhere between 1500 Mbps and 3200 Mbps depending on if its an x2 or x4 type. My Samsung 970 Evo (x4) does about 3200 Mbps. I also experimented with Optane accelerated hard drives and those will clock at about 1000 Mbps to 1200 Mbps. I did not try accelerating a 2.5 inch SATA SSD with the Optane module: I understand you can do that but I would not expect it to be much faster if at all than accelerating a mechanical hard drive with Optane. So there is just no contest. An NVME M.2 SSD as the main storage drive is by far the fastest configuration but accelerating with an Optane module is pretty fast. It would also have the advantage of having all your apps and data on one drive, although that is not always a positive. Some people prefer to keep Windows and data separate and I tend to be in that camp.

Thank you so much for your insight, so I will remove the optane and install the NMVe as my boot drive and the 1 TB ssd as storage. I have to say, this is a very impressive community, everyone is so helpful. I look forward to be here and thanks again
