My laptop failed the optimised DST check so I assume the hard drive disk has failed. Was going to try and reinstall windows but that would be pointless considering it’s the hard drive.
the warranty has ran out and I can’t extend it or apparently can’t even buy the ‘HP care package’
I start my bachelors in the next few weeks and it’s all online so I need my laptop. I don’t have much money either right now so I have no idea what I’m going to do! Why has the hard drive failed?! I bought this laptop brand new in 2018?! How much will a hard drive replacement cost?! I don’t care about the data either as I backed it all up ages ago.

I would recommend a solid state drive of at least 500 gb capacity. It will cost a bit more but well worth it in terms of how efficiently you can work with your laptop.
Pages 37-41 show how to do it. You also have what is called an M.2 slot for "gumstick" drives but yours can only use a SATA M.2, which is no faster than a 2.5 inch one that goes in the hard drive bay. Cost is about the same, too so just get a 2.5 inch SATA SSD to use to replace the hard drive.
You can save quite a bit of money doing this yourself. Windows 10 is a free download which installs with no Key Code needed. We have helped many many people do exactly this repair/upgrade.
