Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have an older HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook that was telling me that I have a "imminent hard drive failure".  It suggested I run the Smart Check on the hard drive and I got a message stating it had failed.  The failure ID is:  9C6380-52U9JT-XD002J-60D703.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed?  Is it worth putting in another hard drive at this point?  I'm already maxed out on RAM.

Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced. Is it still under warranty ? If Yes, please call HP for a replacement.

Since your machine previously ran Windows 10, you can do a clean install W10 for free by using the media creation tool at the link below.

   https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The tool will allow you to make a bootable installation media (USB/DVD) and you can use installation media to install.

During the installation process if you are asked to enter a product key, check the 'Skip' box and W10 will install and then automatically activate once you are connected to the internet using the key embedded in BIOS of your machine.

Then you can install the drivers and available software you need from your PC's support page.

Note: If you wish to keep user files and applications/programs, you ned to select this option from the beginning.

Regards.

Thank you for your response.  I was afraid you were going to confirm what I had already thought, so I appreciate that confirmation.  As the HD is presently still working, though very slowly, I have been able to transfer much of my personal data onto a USB drive.  I will then be able to determine if I want to put anymore money into this laptop, or just buy a new one.

Thanks again......
