Been owner of HP Desktops & Printers for 30years, but now am an owner of a (very very old), HP G60-126CA laptop.
I upgraded the RAM from 3GB to its max of 4GB, & CPU is AMD QL-60, at 1.9Ghz.

wondering if anyway I can use a newer BIOS upgrade, hardware hack (or settings), or software I can run in Windows 7 (installed), to overclock this laptop, & perhaps the old nVidia graphics card integrated on this laptop’s motherboard.

hopefully someone has some info they can share to help-me with my inquiry.

cheers & thanks to all!

@KSKS1,

Other than optimizing Windows 7, as these links explain: https://www.poweradmin.com/blog/how-to-optimize-and-speed-up-windows-7-performance/ and: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/10-ways-to-speed-up-windows-7/, there is not a whole lot you can do.

Look, I am all for upgrading legacy PCs -I have submitted detailed HP legacy desktop upgrade projects in this Forum on the HP Compaq dc7900 USDT, HP Compaq Elite 8300 USDT, HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF, etc., but unfortunately your relic has few upgradeable options.

Kind Regards,

@KSKS1,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Far be it from me to be the messenger of bad tidings, but your AMD 64 X2 Dual Core QL 60 processor - even according to a 14-year-old review I read, was considered to be at the very bottom of the barrel in its class.

It was OK at the time running Vista, sort of -but anyways, keeping it brief: this laptop is too ancient and not worth upgrading.

And no, there are no known hardware hacks or other software trickeries in the known universe that would add performance to your laptop.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your help.  Getting cheap ram was only thing I found I could do.
Is there any program or overclocker I can run in windows to boost performance of this old relic?

I’d like to thank you for posting me back about the “relic” laptop I have.  Didn’t think I could do more to improve it, but I’ll look at links you sent/posted here to optimise my Win7 OS install already on it.

I figured improving the actual hardware on it would be like thinking I could somehow use your Wright Brothers flyer at Kittyhawk to get back to the moon.

nevertheless, I’m grateful for your input, knowledge, & advice regarding my inquiries.  Very much appreciated.

cheers & thanks again!

@KSKS1,

You are quite welcome, and if you haven't done so already: switching from an HDD to an SSD would certainly improve your laptop's performance too.

This drive-swap process is quite straightforward: you buy an SSD -see HP - Compaq HP G60-126CA | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com, for example -but any (budget) 3 NAND SATA 2.5-inch 7mm SSD would do such as WD (Western Digital), SanDisk, etc. and you also need a SATA to USB drive adapter as a temporary tool to clone your old drive onto an SSD, such as this example: Amazon.com: StarTech.com SATA to USB Cable - USB 3.0 to 2.5” SATA III Hard Drive Adapter - External ..., insert the SSD on the SATA end, and plug in the USB end into your laptop.

Then download the freeware cloning Macrium Reflect Free software from here ("Reflect 8 Free - Download Free"): Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition.

Here is an excellent somewhat quirky how-to-use Macrium Free tutorial -the guy clones his drive from a desktop, but the cloning principle is exactly the same for your laptop: (1413) Clone and Replace your Old HDD with a SSD Using Macrium Free Software - YouTube.

Nice thing is that if you were to decide at some future date to upgrade your PC, the SSD you installed in your relic laptop can be easily scrubbed and swapped into a new(er) PC, either as a primary drive or secondary drive.

Anyway, if you choose to do this, and if you run into any issues -no worries, been there done that, I will assist.

Kind Regards,
