The odd marks on the usb port are just a reflection due to lighting.  All of the USB ports look normal.

Do you think it would be worth trying the battery from the working 360 in the one that has the problem?

Sure having a spare opens up all kinds of options most folks do not have. I would swap the SSDs and the batteries and see what happens.

Just swapped the battery from the good laptop into the bad one.

Battery was the issue!  Off to Amazon to purchase a replacement!
