I have an Pavilion 15 I bought used on Amazon about 12/8/23, paid by AMX and have an Amazon order number. The unit was to come with 1 year of HP Support. When I try to contact HP by chat or phone, the automatic system won't accept me. So I eventually talk to a person by phone and keep getting transferred round and round to the following departments: Tech Supp--> Customer Care-->Extended Warranty Dept-->Customer Care-->Operator-->Customer Care.

 

They all tell me my Service Tag No is either not registered or they show that my Pavilion 15 laptop is at HP. I cannot get support and I cannot even pay for support by the case nor buy an extended warranty because my Service Tag is not registered.

 

I have the Service Tag number and the Amazon order number, the name of the Chino Hills, CA computer firm that sold it thru Amazon, and proof that we paid for it by American Express.

 

I need to have HP update your database such that the Service Tag ID is registered to me. Your customer care people are telling me it cannot be done and that nobody at HP can help me without a HP order number for the laptop. The computer firm owner told me that there is no HP order number and that he got about 20 units, not thru HP, but elsewhere and there is no HP order number that he has, He said they may even have been gotten from Brazil or Eastern Europe.

 

I cannot get any help from HP on the phone or thru chat. My last call was over 2 hours and 5 call transfers. And I've had 3 or 4 previous calls a few weeks ago with the same result. I'm at the end of my rope here. This is extremely frustrating.

I understand what you're saying. But Who would have thought that buying it from Amazon would be like this? As far as I know, Amazon is an authorized seller for HP.

But even though I paid for a warranty from Amazon, I'm willing to buy an extended warranty or pay for by the case technical support. But I'm told nobody at HP can help me without a registered Service Tag.

Is HP going to permanently shun me as a customer for some perceived wrong? If so, what did I do wrong? They act like I stole a laptop from them or something. 

I own the corporation I work for, and we've been a long-time HP customer with a net 30 day account from HP. We've bought at least 20-25 HP computers over the years. Not all direct, some thru distributors like Micro Center.

If there is any way you can put me in touch with someone at HP in a position to help me, I would appreciate it.  The people on the phone banks in the Philippines have no tolerance for a situation that's out of the ordinary. I need to talk to someone in the US at HP who can make a decision.

As you are finding out, it is hard to get support without transferring the ownership from the original owner. Since the Amazon seller doesn't know who the original owner is, you are in a tough spot.

Another thing, when you buy from HP or an authorized retailer, the warranty starts when you purchase the unit.

When you buy used or from an unauthorized seller, the warranty started when they originally purchased the unit.

This is user-to-user board. I don't work for HP. I'm an end user, just like you.

Buying from an authorized retailer of new computers will give you the full warranty.

Since you bought your computer used, you would need to get the information of the original owner to get warranty coverage. 

I typically buy my computers through the HP Outlet. You get the full 1-year warranty. I have bought a refurbished machine from Microcenter. I think it came with a 90 warranty through Microcenter, not HP.
