I have the Spectre x360 Convertible Notebook and out of nowhere about half of the keys stopped working.

Not exact, but something like the following keys quit:

B N 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 0 F1 F9 F12

This started months ago. 

Steps I've taken:

✓ Opened the laptop to verify the keyboard was still fully and properly connected. 

✓ Uninstalled the keyboard and let windows rediscover it and install it fresh.

✓ Updated the driver.

✓ Rolled the driver back.

✓ Deep Scanned for Malware & Viruses

✓ System Restore (back 6 months), at which point it fixed the problem, but only for 2 days.

 

When the problem initially began I was able to type using the entire keyboard in the CMD prompt, but that was short lived. Almost immediately I lost that ability as well. 

The only thing I've been doing that I never used to before was installing and using AVG Driver Updater, which is supposed to automatically identify and update outdated drivers, system wide. I have since stopped using their software.

 

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing partial keyboard failure on your Spectre x360 Convertible Notebook. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve the issue.

 

  • Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can fix minor software issues that could be causing your keyboard to malfunction.
  • Check for any physical damage: Look closely at your keyboard to see if there are any visible signs of damage, such as cracks or spills. If you find any damage, it may be necessary to replace the affected keys or the entire keyboard.
  • Update your keyboard driver: Check if there are any updates available for your keyboard driver. Go to the device manager in Windows, locate the keyboard device, right-click on it, and select "Update Driver".
  • Uninstall and reinstall your keyboard driver: If updating your keyboard driver doesn't help, try uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it. To do this, go to the device manager, locate the keyboard device, right-click on it, and select "Uninstall device". Restart your computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
  • Use an external keyboard: If all else fails, you can use an external keyboard to continue using your laptop. You can connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to your laptop to continue typing.
