14-an012nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

We got a 14-an012nr for my son and I want to add an SSD to it for more storage space.  As I understand it we need a bracket and cable to make this work.  I cannot seem to find the part number and where to purchase the needed parts.

Also can we clone the eMMC memory to the SSD and have the SSD be the boot drive?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

Page 32, 33 in manual:
Hard drive bracket 859126-001
Hard drive connector 815139-001

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05227925

Yes clone to SSD. Remove eMMC , change boot order. Boot from SSD.

Excellent.  Thanks.  Do you think using a SSD card would be ok for extra storage?  I can do that a little cheaper than the 50.00 it will cost for both the bracket and the cable.

You're welcome.

SSD will be good for storage as well as best as boot drive.

Are you sure that the 14-012nr has a slot on the motherboard to receive an SSD card adaptor?  My 14-011nr does not.  The 011nr is totally non upgradable internally in both RAM and HD.  Very disappointed.  I have looked but can't find a pic of the mother board anywhere on  the net.  Thanks

I just pulled apart my 14-an012nr looking to install a new hard drive.  There is no slot for an SSD card adaptor.  Extremely disappointed.

Which form factor SSD?

2.5 inch SATA SSD? There is HDD bay, you can put this form factor here.

@visruth

32 gig eMMC models with AMD E processor have the storage soldered to the board and no place to put a hard drive.

Other models do have a removeable eMMC board.

Thank you @Huffer

Wierd that page 2 in the Manual indicates single hard drive configuration for all models even in in board eMMC machines.

Yes but one column very cryptically says "onboard memory, eMMC" which means both RAM and the eMMC module are soldered on. I would have missed it I think.
