Does the HP Pavilion 15 class of laptops (such as the 15-cs0073cl) have an extra drive bay for expansion?
What technology are the drive bays? sata, m.2, NVME, etc?

First of all there is no "such as" nor is there an answer that cuts across the whole "Pavilion 15 class of laptops" which would include many many models and model series. I can, however answer for the 15-cs0073cl and generally the 15-cs0000 series.
The specific model you ask about, the 15-cs0073cl comes with a 1 TB 5400 rpm mechanical hard drive. There is also an M.2 disk slot that can hold either a 2280 form factor SATA-3 M.2 or the much faster PCIe/NVME type 2280 form factor M.2 disks.
With the rear cover removed the laptop looks like this inside:
M.2 slot in red oval
So for exampole you can install a SATA-3 M.2 like the Samsung 860 Evo or a PCIe/NVME M.2 disk like the Adata SX8000:

Thanks so much for the quick and complete response. Exactly what I needed to know.
I wish they would put max mem and expansion/interface info in the specs these days; they are so non-specific.
And, HP model numbers are so confusing.
