I just came on here because I wondered if this was normal or not. I have the HP Pavilion Plus 14 model with RTX 2050 graphics - which has just came today. It’s brand new and upon using it for a while, I noticed that when playing Roblox on automatic graphics, the fans tend to get very noisy and I can feel it getting hot. I would’ve expected this out of a lower quality laptop, however I thought it would’ve been a lot more self efficient when it came to cooling and the noise of the fans. It wasn’t an intense, graphics heavy game either - one that my phone can run perfectly fine if I have to.
Moreover, the graphics switched from RTX 2050 to Iris to which I had to switch back midway through a game demo (which ran questionably) and overall I haven’t had the greatest experience with this laptop so far. I thought the graphics might’ve been the reason why the fans are so noisy since upon downloading Geforce Experience and enabling ‘Whisper Mode’ it was alright for a while.
I just wondered if this was common for the laptop? The noisy fans? If so, how do I reduce it as much as possible?

Hi @giveover,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Noisy fans and high temperatures can be concerning, especially on a new laptop like the HP Pavilion Plus 14 with RTX 2050 graphics. Here are some steps and tips to help manage the fan noise and heat:
1. Ensure Proper Ventilation
Make sure your laptop is placed on a hard, flat surface to allow for proper airflow. Avoid using it on soft surfaces like beds or couches that can block ventilation.
2. Update Drivers and BIOS
- Visit the NVIDIA website to download the latest RTX 2050 drivers.Install the latest drivers for Intel Iris Xe graphics from the Intel website.
- Go to the HP Support website.Enter your laptop model (Pavilion Plus 14) and download the latest BIOS update.
3. Use HP Command Center
- Open HP Command Center: Search for "HP Command Center" in the Start menu.Adjust Thermal Profile: Select a thermal profile that prioritizes quieter operation, such as "Quiet" mode.
4. Enable Whisper Mode in GeForce Experience
Since you mentioned that Whisper Mode helped, ensure it's configured correctly.
- Open GeForce Experience: Launch the application.
- Enable Whisper Mode: Go to the settings and enable Whisper Mode. Adjust the settings to your preference.
5. Check for Background Processes
Excessive background processes can cause your laptop to heat up and the fans to run noisily.
- Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.Check for High CPU Usage: Look for processes using high CPU resources and close unnecessary applications.
6. Adjust Game Settings
Lowering the graphics settings in games can reduce the load on your GPU and CPU, which in turn can reduce heat and fan noise.
- Lower In-Game Settings: Go to the game settings and lower the graphics quality.Set Frame Rate Limit: Limiting the frame rate can also help reduce the heat generated by the GPU.
7. Clean the Vents
Over time, dust can accumulate in the vents, causing poor airflow and increased fan noise. Since your laptop is new, this might not be an issue yet, but it’s worth keeping in mind for future maintenance.Use Compressed Air: Use a can of compressed air to gently clean the vents.
8. Use a Cooling Pad
A laptop cooling pad can help improve airflow and reduce temperatures.
- Choose a Cooling Pad: Look for one with good reviews and sufficient cooling power.
- Place the Laptop on the Cooling Pad: Ensure it is properly positioned to maximize airflow.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
