Hi All,

Ok i have a G6-1232sa Laptop, I have put an SSD and applied fresh thermal past to the APU it and has speed up the laptop.

But I would like to push it a bit a bit more and I think a APU and ram upgrade would make the world of difference.

Currently I'm running a AMD E2-3000M APU and  4GB of DDR3 RAM.

I have look and found AMD have a A8-3500M on the same socket that has twice the number of cores and 4MB of L2 cache, if I can get my hands on one can I replace it with the 3000M I currently have?  and what is the maximum amount of ram can I use?

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

c02968997.pdf (hp.com)

Chapter 1, page 2 has the list of supported AMD processors.

According to the manual you should be able to upgrade to the A8-3500M.

The memory upgrade info can be found on pages 3 & 4.

I think the 6 GB max is in error.

You should be able to install up to 2 x 4 GB of memory in your notebook.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The Crucial memory report for your notebook indicates that you can install 2 x 4 GB of memory.
