Hello reader (and hopefully solver),
Today my laptop refused to charge and I went looking for the cause. I hoped the adapter was broken, but it seems the powercable to the motherboard had a short circuit. I have provided pictures to show what I mean. My question is: Is it still salvagable? If yes, is it worth it costwise and how? Secondly, what could have caused it and how can I prevent this in the futures?
Entrance motherboard
Cable end from adapter to motherboard entrance
Setup
Thank you.

It is highly unlikely the motherboard survived that kind of trauma so the only fix I know would be to replace the motherboard.
This would be a rare event and was caused by a power surge. Not much you can do to prevent it other than maybe always plug the laptop into a UPS instead of directly to the wall outlet.
