Hi
Just got a new HP Pavilion - 15-cs3009na. It makes a very distracting high-pitched whining sound from start up onwards, before I've logged in, and then persists. Presumably the fan or the disk. Not had this with any other (non-HP) laptops before. Beginning to regret my purchase. Does anyone know how to address this please? Room temp is cool and none of the vents are obstructed.
Thanks
Richard

I reviewed your post and I understand that there is whining noise from the computer.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.
BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp105501-106000/sp105819.exe
Intel: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp102001-102500/sp102122.exe
Nvidia: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104237.exe
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi The_Fossette
Thank you, I'm really grateful for your help. Please can I ask another question:
There seems to be a problem with my mouse touchpad. Often, when I click on the very left hand side of the pad, it brings up the right-click menu. I have ordered a wireless mouse to get round this problem but do you know of any fixes for this please? The laptop is new (one week). Thank you so much.
Best wishes
Richard

I recommend you uninstall the touchpad driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98501-99000/sp98747.exe
Here is how it is done.
- Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
- Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
- On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
- When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.
NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
Cheers!
