I want to upgrade my motherboard on this laptop for gaming purposes. I read somewhere that I can upgrade from AMD A6-4400M to an A10, but would only be possible if I had two sockets (i.e., FM1 or FM2). I do not know how many sockets I have or the type. Is this true? If so, how can I find out how many sockets and type I have without taking the computer apart? If upgrading is possible, is there a better yet compatable motherboard you offer/recommend?

You have no sockets at all. The AMD models say this in the manual:
Processor is soldered to the system board
You have this video:
AMD Radeon HD 7520G Discrete-Class graphics and up to 30060MB total graphics memory
This is APU video. The video runs entirely in the processor. It is not bad as far as onboard graphics goes, but is not suitable for gaming. An optional motherboard for your model has this video:
For use only on computer models equipped with the AMD A70M chipset and the AMD RadeonT HD 7730M graphics subsystem (includes 2.0-GB of discrete video memory) 682183-001
While still not a "gaming" video card the 7730M would be much better than what you have. That motherboard would come with an A10 processor.
This motherboard is pretty pricey:
