Hi:

If there is an unknown device showing up in the device manager, that is probably the fingerprint sensor that needs a driver.

This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security
applications.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58900.exe

If the driver does not automatically install the fingerprint sensor, you will need to manually install the driver as follows:

Go to the device manager.

Click on the unknown device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update driver.

Select the 'Browse my computer for drivers' option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp58900.

Make sure that the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Hi Paul Tikkanen

Actually yes i have one unknown device showing up in the device manager and i tried the solution you gave me but still not working, when i tried to install it manually it's showing message " Windows was unable to install unkown device, windows could not find drivers for your device"

Hi:

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be.

There actually should have been two unknown devices.

The fingerprint sensor and the HP 3D driveguard device.

My assumption is that if the fingerprint driver didn't install the device, then you need this driver for that one:

HP 3D DriveGuard Software

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64144.exe

Hi Paul

Actually now after i install the HP 3D DriveGuard Software from the link you gave me the unknown device is no longer available in the device manager but the proble is there is no biometric device, i tried also to add it from the device manager as follows:

I open the device manager

I click on Action button on the top

I choose add legacy hardware option

After that it's coming 2 options and the biometric device is appear in both of them but i can't add it or install it from both options

Please check the picturs below

I don't know why there is no unknown device for the fingerprint reader because if it was missing the driver there would be an unknown device, or a why there is no Biometric devices category that should have the fingerprint reader listed there.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't know what you can do about that.
