DV6500 series models originally came with Windows Vista, and BIOS updates are required to be perform from within Vista.
If your model is running Linux distro, you can't update the BIOS unfortunately.
See page 3 of the service manual which indicates that dv6500 series comes with two memory slots supporting max 4 GB (2x2 GB) DDR2-667 memory.

Since your notebook has an AMD processor, in order to update the BIOS. you must install either Windows Vista (which the PC came with from HP), or Windows XP.
If you install Windows 7 or newer and try to update the BIOS, there is a 100% BIOS failure rate rendering the motherboard irreparable.
Since Tk_srq answered first, I will defer to him to provide the last BIOS update (F.34) HP released for the dv6500s with AMD processors.
