Pavilion x360 14-ba RAM extension

HP Recommended
Pavilion x360 14-ba170ng, 8GB RAM
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Community,

I would like to expand the RAM of the Pavilion x360 14-ba170ng, 8GB RAM I'm currently using.

My questions are:

- How many RAM slots does this notebook has

- In case it has two slots can I add only another 8GB or can I also add another 16GB and keep the current RAM brick in place?

- Which RAM modules do I need? Technical Specification

- What is the maximum RAM the notebook supports?

Many thanks for your response

Mark

Here is the Manual:

Service Manual

See p. 61 for information about memory. You will notice immediately it has 2 slots. However, they are on the reverse of the motherboard meaning the motherboard must be removed to access memory slots. Memory type is DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM and this is the part number for an 8 gig module:

862398-855

The Manual says 12 gb is the max which is incorrect. Maximum is actually 2 x 16 = 32 gigs. Keep the two modules the same. In other words, either add 8 gb to have 16 in total or install a pair of 16 gb modules to have 32. 16 gb is plenty for almost all users. You could add a 16 gb to the 8, but you lose a little bit of RAM performance by doing so.

Post back with any more questions but please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Many thanks for the support!

I followed the instructions and added a 8GB RAM brick DDR4-2400 SODIMM into the second slot in order to get 16GB in total. When booting the laptop the screen remained black. Any idea why?

I took out the new brick and it started as usual again and works fine with the 8GB RAM

I would need to know what memory you tried to install.

The 8GB brick extension was "crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM 1.2V CL17" Is there anything else I can provide?
