My laptop does not provide any low or critical battery warnings or take action when the battery level is critical. The battery test indicates it is in the normal range. The laptop on power on occasionally warns that the battery needs replacement as the power is critically low even though the battery is fully charged. Is this a Bios fault? the bios is the correct version. All hardware and software tests show no issues. Advice please

I recommend that you enter the BIOS, go to the Configuration tab to see if there is a Battery remaining time function that happens to be set to disabled instead of the preferred enabled.
To invoke the BIOS from a notebook powered off state, power on and immediately tap the F10 key.
If you find the setting disabled and you change it to enabled, make sure that you press F10 afterwards, select save changes and exit and then press enter to initiate the save and exit.
I also recommend that you utilize the Windows Battery Report feature to get a clear picture as to the state of your battery so you can make an informed decision as to whether the battery needs to be replaced or not.
I explained how to invoke the Battery Report in an knowledge base article
Indications of Replace battery error messages, even intermittently are definitive warnings that your battery is headed into the last bits of its service life. You should pay attention to the error message. Your smart battery is communicating with the BIOS which in turn triggers the error message.
