I have tried 8 different USB Type-C chargers but this system will only charge from a one, a HP 65W charger.  All chargers support 20V and work with other laptops, including a different model HP.  All are rated at atleast 65W, most are 100W rated.

Would updating the BIOS help?  It is currently Insyde F.16 and there looks to be a version F.20 available, but I don't want to do that upgrade if it won't help.

What is your PC 14-dy0000 (45X02AV) ? It could be one of the following machines

           https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-x360-14-convertible-pc-14-dy0000/2100286041/model/2...

For example:    HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0191TU

It has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) port. I tested on a similar machine using HP USB-C G5 dock and no problem at all.

Unfortunately page 19 of its manual says it only uses one of the following chargers

  • 65 W, nPFC, SMART, 3 pin, 4.5 mm part # 710412-001
  • 65 W, nPFC, SMART, 3 pin, 4.5 mm, EM part # 913691-850
  • 45 W, nPFC, SMART, RC, 4.5 mm, nonslim part # 741727-001

Regards.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  Yes, it is a HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0191TU.

Those chargers are for the old school non-standard power jack.  My question is about standard USB Type-C PD chargers as that is all I travel with, since all modern devices all normally support them.  I'm past carrying a separate PSU for each device.

To quote your answer "It has 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge) port.".  In other words the spec claims support for the USB PD standard.  However it appears this particular SKU is not meeting that standard, so I was wondering if other people had experience the same shortcoming and if they were able to address it?

If I connect a PD test device to the working HP charger you can see it is doing PD at 65W with the last line showing the mode it is using:

HP_USB_Charger.png

With one of the not working 100W PD chargers you can see it is offering a valid 20V mode:

While I could dig further into the actual data exchange all that would do is tell me exactly what is wrong, it would not fix the problem.  What I hope find out is if problem is firmware, so the risk and hassle of a BIOS update is worth it, or if the hardware used is not actually USB PD compliant and no fix is possible?

I did say no USB-C charger for your machine from HP.

@Banhien Thanks again for answering.  Ok it would appear that the core problem is the published specs for for this SKU are incorrect and it does not have the claimed USB PD with the shipped BIOS.

Likewise I guess no one on these forums has tried USB PD charging on this SKU to give feedback, so I will just have to take punt on updating the BIOS to see if that brings it into compliance.
