I want to attach 2 HP p223 displays. One has a CGA cable and the other has a DP cable. I attached a docking station, but the system does not pick up the external monitors. Is there a different docking station I need to get??  Or is there a process I’m missing here!

Hi @Tonym62,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To successfully connect two HP p223 displays with different cable types (CGA and DP) to your HP Pavilion x360 laptop, you'll need to make sure you have the appropriate docking station that supports these connections and your laptop's capabilities. Here are the steps to follow.

Compatibility Check:

  • Ensure that your HP Pavilion x360 laptop has the necessary ports to support dual external monitors.
  • Check if it has at least one USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port. This is important because these ports can support video output.

Docking Station Selection:

  • You'll need a docking station that supports both CGA (presumably VGA) and DP (DisplayPort) connections. Ensure the docking station has these ports.

Cable Adapters:

  • If your laptop doesn't have the required video outputs directly, you may need adapters.
  • For the CGA (VGA) cable, you'll likely need a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 to VGA adapter.
  • For the DP (DisplayPort) cable, ensure your docking station has a DP output port, and if needed, you may need a DP to USB-C/Thunderbolt adapter if your laptop doesn't have a native DP port.

Driver and Software Installation:

  • Make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed on your HP Pavilion x360.
  • Check the display settings on your laptop to extend or duplicate the displays.

Connect Everything:

  • Connect the docking station to your laptop's USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port.
  • Connect one HP p223 display to the docking station's CGA (VGA) port or adapter.
  • Connect the other HP p223 display to the docking station's DP port or adapter.

Power On and Configure:

  • Power on the displays and ensure they are set to the correct input source.
  • In your laptop's display settings, you should be able to detect and configure the external displays.

If you've followed these steps and still encounter issues, here are some troubleshooting steps.

  • Restart your laptop after connecting the displays and docking station.
  • Check if the docking station requires any firmware or driver updates.
  • Test each display separately to ensure they work individually.
  • If possible, try a different docking station that is known to work with your laptop model and the dual monitor setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
