I have used laptops for over 30 years and this is the first time that a hinge connecting the laptop screen to the keyboard body breaks. I have a Pavillion 360 laptop that is functional, but the right hinge is broken and I am concerned that I would place more damage if I close the laptop lid. I learned that there is a lawsuit against HP for faulty design as there are thousands of HP Pavillion owners experiencing the same broken hinge

Hi @thegrabbag
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query.
I understand your frustration, especially given your long experience with laptops. I’m sorry to hear that the right hinge on your HP Pavilion x360 has broken while the laptop itself remains functional. I also understand your concern that closing the lid could cause further damage to the display, surrounding casing, or other components.
At this stage, I recommend avoiding unnecessary movement of the lid and not forcing it closed, as this could worsen the damage. A physical hinge failure may require inspection to determine whether the issue is limited to the hinge assembly or whether the mounting points, display enclosure, or base cover have also been affected.
Also confirm:
- Is the hinge itself visibly broken, or has the surrounding plastic casing separated, cracked, or lifted?
- Does the display still open and close smoothly, or does it feel stiff, loose, or misaligned?
- Are there any visible cracks, gaps, or bulges around the right hinge or the display bezel?
- Has the laptop experienced any accidental impact, pressure, or previous hinge repair?
- Is the laptop still under warranty, or have you already contacted HP Support regarding this issue?
Share clear photos of the right hinge from the outside and inside, if safely visible, along with the product number.
Take care and have an amazing day!
I'm an HP Employee.
