Pavillion DV6 laptop dead. Please, don't offer advice on this issue! I covered all the bases already.

What I want to find out is what REPLACEMENT machine can I buy that will be able to read the salvaged disk drive from the laptop? What are my options? For example, is the cable interface standard? What about clock speed of the replacement machine? Will that affect which machines it would be compatible with?

Would it be possible to install into a desktop/tower machine and have it be a second drive? If possible, that might be more practical than swapping a replacement machine's native drive out for the old, salvaged one. Does it need to be an HP machine or as I asked above, is the interface standard so it could be installed in another brand's model?

Note that I am open to either new models or older ones -- my main need is to be able to access the disk drive.

  • HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts as it may affect the performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.

To get the answer to this question, You can remove the hard drive from this computer and with the help of hard drive caddy you can copy your files or you can take it to the nearest computer and asked them to retrieve your files from this hard drive.
