Hi there, some time ago my pc model 15-bc014nl just stopped turning on, it made some electric noises and after that I can't do nothing with it (it was durin a chargin period)

I had to took all my work from it and transfer to it to another pc, but now I don't know what to do with this one, I tried to ask to 3 different IT repair centers and all of them told me the same: "the problem is the mother board, it's gone"

Since the mother board cost as much as a new pc, can you tell me what can I do with it? I kinda don't want to throw it away, maybe HP can take it in exchange of a gift card or something, I don't know, everything would be good but throwing it it in the bin.

Thanks to everyone who will respond

Hi @Ivan1509

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing your experience so clearly. It’s genuinely disheartening to lose a trusted device—especially when it fails suddenly and repair costs rival a new purchase. You’ve already done the hard part by salvaging your data and seeking multiple repair opinions.

Now let’s explore meaningful options that don’t involve tossing your HP 15-bc014nl in the bin.

What You Can Do With a Non-Working HP Laptop

1. HP Trade-In or Recycling Programs

HP offers environmentally responsible options through their Sustainable Impact initiative:

  • HP Trade-In: While not guaranteed for every model, HP sometimes offers credit or discounts toward a new device when you return an old one.
  • HP Planet Partners Recycling: You can return your laptop for certified recycling. It won’t earn a gift card, but it ensures safe disposal and may include free pickup depending on your region.

You can contact HP directly to check eligibility for trade-in or recycling:

2. Repurpose Salvageable Parts

Even if the motherboard is dead, other components may still be usable:

  • RAM and SSD/HDD: Can be reused in other laptops or external enclosures
  • Display Panel: May be repurposed as a secondary monitor with an HDMI controller board
  • Battery, Keyboard, Chassis: Useful for DIY projects or donor parts

Local repair shops or online marketplaces may accept these for credit or resale.

3. Donate for Educational or Repair Training Use

Some vocational schools or repair training centers accept non-working laptops for hands-on practice. It’s a way to give your device a second life while supporting skill development.

Let me know if you’d like to contact Hp phone support team—I’ll walk you through it.

You’ve clearly done everything right, and this kind of situation deserves a thoughtful, sustainable resolution.
