I have been using this machine since 2017. It was working fine, but now I am facing some issues regarding performance. Now, I have started my freelance career and choose WordPress web design and development. Now when I open my site, [edited] , to edit, I feel some issues. It did not respond quickly, and I had to wait for a long duration to perform my tasks. Even sometimes when I open my computer to perform some tasks, its hard drive becomes unresponsive.
Its RAM is 8GB DDR and Hard is 2TB (standard)
Should I upgrade to SSD to solve these issues, or do I need some other tasks to do?
please guide me, as i am suffering from work loss

@lescoebill, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be to face performance issues, especially when you're trying to grow your freelance career in WordPress web design. Let's work together to improve your notebook's performance.
Recommended Solution: Upgrade to SSD
Your symptoms strongly suggest that the mechanical hard drive (HDD) is the bottleneck. Upgrading to a Solid State Drive (SSD) is one of the most effective ways to boost performance, especially for tasks like web development, multitasking, and browsing.
Steps to Upgrade:
Choose the Right SSD:
- Your notebook supports a 2.5-inch SATA SSD.
- Recommended: 500GB or 1TB SSD from brands like Samsung, Crucial, or WD.
Backup Your Data:
- Use an external drive or cloud storage to back up important files.
Create a Windows Installation Media:
- Download the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft: Create Windows 10 Installation Media
Replace the HDD with SSD:
- You can refer to the HP Maintenance and Service Guide for your model: HP 15-ay513tu Manuals
- Look for the section on "Removing and Replacing the Hard Drive."
Install Windows on the New SSD:
- Boot from the USB installation media and install a fresh copy of Windows.
Install HP Drivers:
- After installation, download and install drivers from the HP Software and Drivers page.
Additional Tips to Improve Performance:
Disable Startup Programs:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Go to Startup tab → Disable unnecessary apps.
Run HP Support Assistant:
- Download from HP Support Assistant
- It helps with diagnostics and driver updates.
Keep Windows and Drivers Updated:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
