Hi,
Just got a new HP Envy X360 with the Ryzen 4800u and its amazing.
The only issue i got is that the keyboard backlight turns of after like 15 secs.
I want it to be permanently turned on, like it was on my previous Thinkpad which was replaced by the Envy.
I have checked the Bios but there are very very limited options in there. Are there any way to access some advanced settiings in the bios to change this setting? Or is it possible to change it from windows?
Best regards,
Joakim

I dislike answering this type of question - no one is happy with the result.
The Advanced option is not likely available in your consumer grade machine.
HP has traditionally only made the Advanced Section available in business / commercial products.
What does that mean?
Short Answer:
BIOS Advanced section Not there = Section and applicable settings not available on your computer.
BIOS – Backlit Keyboard and other Advanced Options
This is one of those situations where the how-to document mentions that a particular feature might not be supported on every computer. The document does not offer an exact explanation because the document is not written for YOUR computer.
HP Notebook PCs - Using the Backlit Keyboard
Section: The backlight stays on for only a few seconds
Excerpted from the document:
note:If there is not a setting for the backlight timing in the BIOS, this behavior might not be supported on the notebook. Check your notebook model's product support documentation to confirm support.
Discussion
In general, and there might be exceptions,
- Business class computers offer the BIOS Advanced section.
- Examples of business class systems include and are not limited to: Zbook Mobile Workstations, ProBook, EliteBook, and others.
For example
- The backlit keyboard timeout option is included in the Advanced section as appropriate (assuming system has a backlit keyboard).
- At this writing, consumer class systems do not include the Advanced BIOS section.
- Examples of consumer grade systems include and are not limited to: Spectre, Pavilion, Envy, Notebook.
HP Note
BIOS configurations vary depending on the computer. For further information on a specific computer, refer to the documentation provided with the computer or go to the appropriate document for your PC.

Hi Dragon-Fur,
Thanks for the detailed answer, although very disappointing.
I'm not sure why that kind of setting should be hidden from the user.
Sure, i can understand why they want to hide CPU and RAM settings but i think this simple setting should be configurable.
I guess i cant to anything about it though, only complain.
Anyways, thanks for the answer!

You are welcome.
The reasons for the BIOS structure are made up by people other than ourselves. .
I'd give it to you if it were mine to give. Smiling
Put up with it as best you can.
When (and not before) you are considering a replacement, think about the HP business class line.
For example,
Probooks are the lesser expensive of the group - some nice features.
Elitebook / Elite is a premier product
Elite Dragonfly is just a gorgeous piece of work and is lightweight and portable.
Zbook is "top of heap" for maths , scientific and artistic renderings, and plain muscle.
When deciding, read everything you can find, including the User guide and maintenance manual for any potential candidate. Search for the "datasheet", too (product name + the word "datasheet").
I admit I am biased - I moved to business class machines years back: Better hardware, longer warranty, highly configurable, and repairable in the field (meant for Enterprise / IT supported work environments). Business / Commercial class systems do cost more up front.
Stay Safe.

Yeah, i acutally have a HP Elitebook 830 G5 as my work machine which i am rather impressed with, hence the purchase of this Envy.
But as you said, i think there is quite a big difference between the consumer and professional laptop classes, unfortunatly.
