HP ENVY x360 13-ay0285ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I did a clean installation of Windows 10 on my HP envy x360 13-ay0285ng. After the installation the "<>|"-Key isn't working. On the german keyboard layout it's an alternate (FN) option of the L-Key. Am I missing any keyboard drivers to get this working again. In the HP-Support Portal there aren't any keyboard drivers for this model.

Thanks in advance

I reviewed your post and I understand that the pipe key is not working on the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Have you changed the keyboard layout and checked?

Meanwhile, the keyboard uses the Windows built-in drivers and I recommend you install the keyboard driver from the device manager and then restart the computer and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hi The_Fossette,

I didn't switch keyboard layouts, but I need it on german layout, so it would be no help if it works on another layout.

EDIT: I did try now with us layout. But there is the same problem.

The trick with removing the keyboard driver in device manager I tried some days ago, but without any success.

At the moment the device is known as "PS/2-Standardtastatur" which should be "PS/2-defaultkeyboard" in english. Could this be the problem, as this is the wrong device driver?

  • Do you see the HID keyboard device in the device manager?
  • Have you tried with an external keyboard?

Meanwhile, I recommend you run a test on the keyboard following the steps in the below article.

These are the HID devices I can see in the device manager. Without exactly knowing which would be the keyboard device, I removed most of them and rebootet. With no success.

This is the result of my keyboard test. If I try to do the "<" by hitting FN+L it only rects with an lower L.

I recommend you perform a system restore on the computer back to the date when the keyboard was working fine.

Refer to the below article for detailed steps.

I think a restore is not an option.

This is a clean windows 10 installation. Without the anti-virus-**bleep** shipped with this notebook. If hp has special drivers for the keyboard, I think they should make them downloadable at the support portal. I don't think there is another problem on my notebook.

@j10l

As informed earlier, the keyboard uses the Windows built-in driver and there is no specific driver for the keyboard from HP.

I recommend you contact support and further diagnose the issue.

Here is how you can get in touch with support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
