Pavilion 15-ab030TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Pavilion 15-ab030TX. Laptop is about 14 months old. I got the dreaded "plugged in not charging" error. Laptop is running latest version of Windows 10. The battery and ac adaptor drivers are all up to date. I downloaded and ran the HP Support Assistant battery test and it said my battery was OK.

The battery diagnostic tool ESC -> F2 is not in my bios cuz I did a clean install of the OS ...?

How can I fix this plugged in not charging error. I'm at 73% battery.

I unplugged the AC adaptor from the wall and then took a paper clip and shorted the DC plug with a paper clip. Didn't help.

Please help. Thanks!

Hello GBL84,

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. I turned off the laptop, took out the battery, waited 3 minutes, put the battery back in and turned on the laptop.

Now the battery charging works fine! I'm back at 100% charge.

I was very happy that this simple trick worked.

Thanks again for your reply. Kind Regards,

Advait

You might want to take a look at this document: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.

It suggests troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is the battery, the power supply, or the system board.

You might find the answer to your battery/power issue as you work through the steps in that HP support article.

I have an HP Envy x360 m6 Convertible with the plugged in, not charging problem.  This PC has a non-removeable battery.  I have tried unistalling both the battery and adapter using the device manager, unplugged the adapter, both from the PC and wall socket, then shut down the PC.  Waited 5 minutes, the plugged in the adapter and restarted the PC.  Same results as before.  Support Assistant battery check states baterry working fine and HP diagnostics shows adapter passed.  Does anyone have a procedure that works with a non-removeable battery.

On a different thread,  Mr Robot, an HP guy, had me do a hard reset that fixed my problem.  To do this:

1.  Remove all devices, to include the AC adapter.

2.  Do a hard reset by holding in the power button for a WHOLE  minute.

3.  Power up and let windows to finish loading before reconnecting the AC adapter and other devices.

When I reconnected my AC adapter, my power icon read 28 minutes to full charge kept charging up to 100%.

4.  He then recommended  to update my BIOS and chipset drivers and provided me a link.  Since  I'm new to  to using forums, I don't know how to direct you to that link.

Back when this laptop was under warranty, I had a similiar  problem and HP had me check the AC adapter using the HP dianostic tools, and that revealed my adapter was bad.  So that too is a possibility.

Hope you too, like me, finds the right fix for your ailing machine.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I couldn't get it to work so I rang through to Curry's (newish laptop). I'm going to head back to the shop tomorrow morning to see what they say - it's a pain but I've tried everything.
