Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Every morning I turn on my laptop, I notice the battery isn't charging but it is plugged in. The battery status on the laptop says "remaining" and not "plugged in not charging". I fixed this yesterday and this morning but surely it isn't the physical battery itself because it started charging when the battery is really low. (from 10-20%).

Hi @SRDevy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop shows “plugged in, not charging” even though it is connected, and it only charges when the battery is low. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the battery charge thresholds
Some laptops, especially HP models, have battery health management settings that prevent charging above a certain percentage to prolong battery life.
Go to HP Battery Check / HP Support Assistant > Battery > Configure settings and see if charging thresholds are enabled.

Perform a power reset
Shut down the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
Remove the battery if it is removable.
Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power, then reconnect battery and adapter and power on.

Inspect the power adapter and connection
Ensure you are using the original HP adapter and cable.
Check that the plug is fully inserted and there is no debris in the charging port.

Update BIOS and battery drivers
Go to the HP support site for your laptop model and download the latest BIOS and battery/AC adapter drivers.
Updated firmware and drivers often resolve “plugged in, not charging” issues.

Check battery health
Use HP Support Assistant > Battery Check to see if the battery is healthy.
Even if the battery works at low charge, aging or degraded cells can cause intermittent charging behavior.

Check Windows power settings
Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Battery.
Ensure there are no settings limiting charging above a certain level.

I hope this helps.

Hello HP Agent! I'm so glad you came by to answer my post.

I figured out that the situation has something to do with a type of software glitch. This does happen whenever I shut down my laptop and whenever I turn it on my laptop stops recieving charge then I would normally do random steps such as uninstalling the ACPI Driver in Device Manager or holding the power button for 30 seconds.

Whenever I get it to fix I started to leave my laptop on idle overnight (Made sure it wouldn't overheat) and the problem never came back again.

If this situation were to be fixed with entering the BIOS I would also need help with that due to having a broken laptop screen and needing help getting BIOS on my external monitor.
