USB 3 Port Replicator
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My company has purchased a HP 3001pr USB 3.0 Port Replicator with product # F3S42AAto be used with a HP Probook 450 G2 model laptop.  All the ports are working OK but it does NOT charge the laptop even though it has an AC power cord connected to the device.

Most port replicators we've purchased in the past only require ONE USB connection to the laptop for charging the laptop battery .. does this model require a separate AC power cord to charge the laptop?

I've also installed the latest BIOS on the laptop and HP drivers, and I've installed the DisplayLink software and drivers on the port replicator device too (which is newer than the drivers on the HP site for this device).

We've sent this device back to HP for RMA replacement which arrived today.  I've connected the device and it has the same exact problem .. not charging the battery on the laptop.

Please explain how to fix this issue!

Thanks,
Shane at [edited] (cell/text)

Hi,

Many new machines now have USB-C port(s) but not all of them support charging thru USB-C. Your machine ONLY has USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 therefore at this stage, no other option. You simply can not use USB 3.0 port to charge your laptop.

No, USB 3.0 port replicator won't be able to charge a laptop, any laptop. On another hand, you can't use USB 3.0 to charge your laptop anyway. It simply won't charge.

Thanks for the update.  I made the assumption it would charge the laptop since it came with an AC power cord for the device.

Does HP make a port replicator that will charge the laptop too?  Our goal is to have only one connection going to the laptop if possible.  Using this device we will need the USB 3 connection plus the AC power connection.

Since our users take their laptops home most nights this makes it a little less convenient to disconnect 2 cables ( and unplug the AC adapter ) every night to take the laptop home.

Thanks again,

Shane
