Dear all, the HP laptop of my wife has a faulty DC power jack (input 19.5 Vdc, 3.33A). When she moves it, the laptop reguraly shuts down. Now, the DC power jack was already replaced by HP during the garantee period and l have seen how the enigneer replaced it, it is not that extremely complicated. Unfortunately the problem returned and in the mean time the garantee expired and I asked HP for quotation and that turns out to be an expensive one (several hunderds of euros). Can any one help me with the spare part number of this DC power jack? Also a link to a supplier of the part would be appreciated. Many thanks. Wijbe

Thanx a lot Huffer, that looks like the one. I think you are right about moving around with the power plug inside. It simply gives a bending moment and when you do that long enough.... I was told that inside the plug (the female part that is) this way some of the wires break and that by sudden motion the wires (re)connect and then the pc shuts down. Probably due to some overload l guess. I will order this one (maybe even two 🙂 Thanks once more for your help (and also BeemerBiker), very much appreciated. BR Wijbe

I was unable to find a parts list for your laptop. See if the serial number for your wife's laptop brings up a parts list below
There is a picture of the part here at 10:10 in this video
The jack appears to move slightly in the video so possibly it is modular.
If the jack is modular it may have a part# on it. The part can be googled for or you can try to match the image to the many jacks availably.
The jacks I have seen are so small there is no place for a part number. Sometimes the cable has a tag with a code.
If the jack is not modular then it is soldered onto a board. It is possible the board is cracked. Post back here with pictures if the above does not match what you have.

Hi BeemerBiker, thanks for your reply, very much appreciated. When the HP engineer came to repair l made a photo of the part he took out of the laptop. Unfortenately only one sided and not a close up of the green label, my mistake. And the guy took the part. You do not expect a part to fail twice in a relatively short time.... The link you attached also does not show the partnumber. What l will do is open the laptop in the comming weeks and see if there is any part number visible. I will leave an update then. Cannot believe that this part is super specific.
Thanks once more for responding.

Try entering the laptop serial number at the below site and look for "cable"

This is the part you need:
(10) Power connector/cable L87959-001
Service Manual:
This is a highly specific one-off part. It is not too difficult to replace, however, as you have seen. I do not know your spouse and I have never seen her use her laptop but I can tell you from being a laptop repair guy for a few years, some people are very hard on laptop power jacks. They move the laptop around, carry the laptop with the power cord plugged in, bump it into things on the desk, etc. In other words, multiple power jack failures usually require user education as much as component repair. Of course, I could be completely wrong and I apologize for any perceived insult. None intended.
18 Euros and you can likely find it cheaper:
