I purchased an original OEM power supply for this unit from Amazon. It is identical in every way to the adapter that came with the notebook. When I bought it in September of 2021, it worked flawlessly for several months. I haven't used it in a while, but when I plugged it in today, it is not functioning properly.
As soon as I plug the adapter in, the battery indicator states Battery Not Detected. If I unplug it and back in, the message goes away, but the battery does not charge and error message comes back again within a minute or two. If I switch back to the original charger, I do not get the error and it starts to charge.
What could be going on? If it worked fine before, what could have happened? I'm having difficulty finding out who the seller was on Amazon (not listed on the product page?). If this is an original HP part, would it be under warranty from HP? Any other troubleshooting?
Thanks

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I understand that your HP notebook battery is not working correctly. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.
Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
- 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
- 2. Expand batteries.
- 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
- 4. Shut down the computer.
- 5. Disconnect the charger.
- 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
- 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
- 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
- 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

While I appreciate you taking the time to respond, the battery is not the issue. The issue is with the replacement adapter. When using the adapter that came with the unit, everything functions perfectly. The machine operates on AC power while charging the battery. However, when using the replacement adapter, an original OEM HP Part purchased on Amazon and identical to the original adapter in every way, the issues I mentioned occur. Specifically, error message "Battery not detected", battery does not charge and machine is not operating on AC power. The replacement adapter worked fine from September through December 2021 but now no longer operates properly.
Any idea what could be going on? It seems unlikely that an AC adapter would "go bad" after only a couple of months.

@djmtrum
Thank you for posting back.
To get the answer to this question, this seems like a software glitch due to which ac adapter not functioning correctly.
- Have you tried the above-mentioned steps? If no, please perform those steps to correct the charging issue.
Keep me posted!

Thank you for posting back.
You can refer to non-removable battery for sealed unit.
Work on it as per your convenience and keep me posted on the results.
Have a great day ahead!

While performing the below steps, you don't have to remove the battery.

Followed instructions but issue persists. Just to clarify: there is nothing wrong with the battery. If I turn on the machine from a shut down state without an adapter plugged in, everything operates fine and the machine runs on battery power. If I turn the machine on with the original AC adapter plugged in, everything operates fine and the machine runs on AC power and charges the battery. It is only when I turn the machine on with the replacement OEM adapter plugged in that the issues occur: machine does not run on AC power and the battery does not charge. Again, this adapter worked fine from Sep to Dec 2021.
Does that clarify the issue better?

The power adapter that is causing the issue has internal issues.
There is nothing you can do but have the "new" power adapter replaced to resolve the issue.
