Starting the other day my computer no longer recognizes when I have anything other than the power cable plugged into the USB-C ports. I get a pop up that the port experienced a power surge and needs to be reset. I unplugged the device, hit the Reset button on the pop up. But then i get another pop up that says the port did not reset but may still function. if not restart the computer. Once I restart the computer, the same sequence of incidents happen.
I have tried the following but nothing worked:
- running the hardware and device troubleshooter
- Uninstall and reinstall USB drivers
- Checked for driver updates
- Updated Chipset driver
- Changed the USB power settings under the control panel
- Disabled fast start up
- Tried to manually reset the USB ports
P.S. I experienced this same exact thing on my company issued Dell laptop (at the same time) but was able to reset the ports without any issue using the reset button on the pop up.

I reviewed your post and I understand that USB C port is not working correctly, and you are getting an error saying Power Surge on USB-C Port.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, then perform a system restore back to the date when the USB C port was working fine.
Refer to the below article for detailed steps.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
