Bought the HP mini notebook several years ago and subsequently inherited by my grand-daughter. Unfortunately, she lost the power adaptor and the notebook has become useless without it. The name of the product, as appeared on the machine, is called HP Mini. May wish to know the specification of the power adapter (so that I can use a universal AC adapter) or should I just buy a spare part from HP (subject to availability, of course)?

What EXACTLY is your HP Mini ? Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824
or
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).
This is an old machine, HP normally does not keep its parts. You have to use part # to buy elsewhere.
Regards.
