Hi @Kkenh,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's power button is not responding, there are a few alternative methods you can try to power it on, depending on the model and available features:

1. Use the Lid Open Sensor (if supported)

Some HP laptops automatically power on when you open the lid:

  • Close the lid completely.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Open the lid and see if the laptop powers on.

2. Use the Keyboard (Wake-on-Keyboard)

If enabled in BIOS:

  • Plug in the charger.
  • Press EnterSpacebar, or Ctrl + Esc to try waking the laptop.

Note: This only works if the feature was enabled in BIOS before the power button failed.

3. Use an External Keyboard (USB)

  • Connect a USB keyboard.
  • Press Enter or the Power key (if available) to try waking the laptop.

4. Use the Charger Plug-In Trick

  • Unplug the charger.
  • Hold down any key (like Esc or F2).
  • While holding the key, plug in the charger.
  • This sometimes triggers a power-on event.

5. Perform a Hard Reset

This can sometimes revive a non-responsive power button:

  1. Unplug the charger.
  2. Remove the battery (if removable).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the battery and charger.
  5. Try powering on again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
