My laptop shows a blinking red and white light on the power cord or near the charging port. The laptop is not turning on. I want to understand what this blinking pattern means—whether it's related to the battery, charger, or motherboard issue. I’ve checked the adapter and tried different power sources. Any troubleshooting help or explanation for this light code would be appreciated

Hi @678261

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A blinking red and white light near the charging port usually indicates a battery or power issue. Here are some possible causes and troubleshooting steps:

         Possible Causes

  1. Battery Failure – The red light often signals a critical battery issue, while the white light suggests normal operation. If the battery is failing, the laptop may not turn on.
  2. Power Adapter Issue – A faulty charger or loose connection can cause inconsistent charging.
  3. Overheating Protection – Some laptops flash red and white when the battery overheats, preventing charging.
  4. BIOS/UEFI Issues – A corrupted BIOS can interfere with power management.
  5. Battery Calibration Needed – If the battery is misreporting its charge level, recalibration may be required.

    Troubleshooting Steps

Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and charger, then try turning it on.

Check the Power Adapter & Charging Port

  • Inspect the charger for damage and try a different power outlet.
  • If possible, test with another compatible charger.

Reset the Battery (If Applicable)

  • Some laptops have a battery reset pinhole—check your model’s manual.
  • If the battery is removable, reseat it and try again.

BIOS Reset

  • Turn off the laptop and press F10 repeatedly while powering on.
  • In BIOS, press F9 to load default settings, then F10 to save and exit.

Try Booting Without the Battery

  • If your laptop works only on AC power, the battery may need replacement.
