The power led starts blinking white. Happens randomly. Even when the computer is shutdown but connected to AC power. Mostly happens when lid is down. The BIOS diagnostics and HP support diagnostics on battery gives it OK. Computer starts and runs normaly most of the time, but the battery icon in taskbar says plugged in not charging even when battery is down to minimum. If I remove the battery and charger and plug them back orange charging light comes on and laptop works normally again until problem recurs randomly.
Have also done the no ac power, battery out, press power button for 20-30 seconds routine with same results.
I had my memory upgraded to 16 GB but the problem was there before that.
The only problem is annoyance and irritation that I have to remove battery and power and plug them back again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
PS: Laptop came with Windows 8.1 but immediately upgraded to windows 10 home (64 bit) and had been updated regularly. All drivers are also up to date, albeit the wireless driver which I downgraded because of BSOD error.

Hey there! @drnoaman, Welcome to HP forums!
I understand power light on your laptop keeps blinking.
Don't worry I'd like to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Are the lights on the caps lock and num lock blinking on your laptop?
Are you able to boot into BIOS?
To perform a hard reset on a computer with a removable battery, use the following steps:
Turn off the computer.
Disconnect the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
Press and hold down the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook computer, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, then press the Enter key.
After reconnecting each of the peripheral devices, run Windows Update and HP Support Assistant to update all device drivers.
After trying the steps if you are able to boot into BIOS try restoring the BIOS to default and check if it helps.
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Also, refer this article to know more information about blinking lights on your PC.
Let me know how it goes!
Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Had already gone through everything you said earlier. The problem the laptop goes to normal operation after hard reset but the blinking starts again after random time. No other LEDs flash.
Even when the LEDs flash laptop operations are normal except the message plugged in not charging.
Everytime this happens I do the reset stuff and problem goes away.
The laptop has updated windows plus all drivers are up to date.

Hi @drnoaman,
It looks like you were interacting with @A4Apollo, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,
I'm the Jeet_Singh & I'm at your service.
As I understand you have already tried these steps earlier and the problem seems to be rectified by performing a Hard reset on the notebook. Don't worry as I have a few other suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Does this happen when you connect the laptop just with the battery in?
Have you tried with a different AC adapter?
In the meantime, while you respond to this post, please try these steps here:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue.
