Hi, in an attempt remplace the battery of my HP-ENVY 17, i inserted the new one upside down for a minute of so. Then i inserted it in the correct way, but now my laptop won’t startup. Even the white power/charge led near the power plug won’t turn on. Is there some kind of fuse i need to reset or did I blow up the main board?

Hi @almichaelsjr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 17's internal power management is locked up by the reversed battery insertion, causing the Embedded Controller to cut all power to protect the motherboard.

Fortunately, laptops have built-in safeguards, so your main board may not be permanently damaged.

Try performing a Hard Reset (Power Drain) to reset the controller:

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the laptop.

  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, mice, etc.).

  3. Press and hold the Power button for 60 seconds. (This drains any residual static electricity and resets the motherboard's embedded controller).

  4. Plug only the AC adapter into the laptop (leave the battery disconnected for a moment, or if it's an internal battery, ensure it's properly seated).

  5. Attempt to turn on the laptop using wall power.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
