Presario F730US
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Presario F730US specifications page:

HP Presario F730US Notebook PC - Product Specifications

This contains a factual error.

The system will accept 2x of 2GB DDR2 SODIMM.

This system will work with Windows 8.1x64.

It even works with Windows 10, except for the lack of video drivers, unless you like being limited to Basic drivers (1024 * 768 and no external possible).  Still can't get the 'driver' for the coprocessor, but so far that hasn't been an issue.

Far from a speedy system, it is passable with an SSD onboard.

Note: it is possible to set UMA video memory size to 0.  Do not do it!  I tried it, thinking I'd simply dedicate all RAM to non-graphic tasks... and soon after the system rebooted by itself, then in POST gave 1 long, 2 short beeps (video).  Only back to normal after cycling the RTC battery.

I don't think that is an error. The specs shows ORIGINAL configuration and valid at that time. From time to time HP may release newer BIOS to allow owners to upgrade their machines. This is good isn't it.

Back to the good old days, vendors only release new products few times each year and we normally keep machines for 3 years or more. Now, vendors release new products every second week and we may only keep machines for 1 year or even less.

I still have few laptops/notebooks which are 6 or 7 years old, they are business machines at that time and their prices wrere around 3 to 5 times of our machines today.  Do you know how much for an IBM P70 with

386DX-20 CPU
8MB RAM
120MB IBM DBA ESDI hard disk
1.44 Mb Floppy Drive

in 1992/1993 ?

Hope this makes sense.

Regards.
