Hi all
Yesterday my laptop suddenly got rebooted and booting time was taking long as compared to usual.I then manually pressed the power switch and rebooted into UEFI mode. The system tests were all fine except the hdd short dst check failed. The error code was - GLMXSW-8NM8SS-GXGGRG-60WF03.I tested many times and sometimes it was showing SOFTWARE ERROR.
Now suddenly it entered in automatic repair mode and after some diagnostic test, the laptop entered into the windows. One thing i would like to say that the windows10 1709 update failed at night before this happened.
Now i installed the 1709 manually(by installing windows10 update assistant).
Now my hdd dst check showing passed(I tried several times).I also test with crystaldiskmark and i am attaching the result below. My hdd is segated's hybrid hdd(ST1000LX015-1U7172-SSHD)
My question,is the HDD failing or it was caused by some software related issue?Although my laptop is under warranty. Please help....

@Sharanya_Das, Thanks for your quick response and time.
I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.
As you mentioned the hard drive test on your PC passed.
It sounds like the hard drive is functioning correctly, if some sectors on the hard drive are faulty you might receive this error.
Did you try running a hard drive extensive test on your PC?
If the test has passed after running a hard drive extensive test then you PC is functioning correctly.
If the hard drive extensive test fails. It is a hardware problem. Please contact HP support for service options.
Hope this helps!

Hi! @Sharanya_Das, Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I understand your PC is taking a long time to boot and the hard drive on your laptop failed with a failure ID.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Please provide the product number of your PC to assist you better.
As you mentioned your PC is taking a long time to boot and the hard drive on your laptop failed with a failure ID.
First, try updating the BIOS on your PC and try running a system diagnostics test on your PC.
Link to update the BIOS.
If the hard drive test passes you don't have to replace the hard drive
However, if the hardware test fails the hard drive on your laptop is about to fail and the error message indicates an issue with the sectors or data, on the physical disks on the hard drive has gone faulty.
Please replace the hard drive at the earliest to avoid hard drive failure.
Since the hard drive has gone faulty it would be difficult backup data.
However, I would suggest you can try contacting best buy or Walmart and check for data backup. As they would use a third party software to backup the data.
Refer this article to know more information about hard drive issues.
Please contact HP support for service options.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?
Before the hard drive short dst fail occured, the windows 1709 update got failed several times.
After that,When i was able enter in the windows(after the hard drive short dst check fail & the pc was taking too long to boot and a self repair occured automatically),i manually installed the 1709 update and also all the cumulative updates are installed automatically later on.
After that, all the booting problem is gone now and also each & every time all the hardware test(including HDD short dst test) is getting "PASSED"(I tested several times during last two days after the incident happened).
Also chkdsk returned no error everytime!
Did u check my Crystaldiskmark check results? Is it normal?
right now,i am not facing any problems from last two days! Please suggest what to do......

I ran the extensive DST test and it lasted for around 4 hrs and upon completion,it got "PASSED".
So there is no need to change the HDD right now, correct??

@Sharanya_Das, Thanks for your response.
As you mentioned you performed an extensive test on your PC the test results are passed.
So you don't have to worry since the hard drive test on your PC has passed.
However, to ensure long lasting of the hard drive you can try disk defragment and disk cleanup on your PC.
Defragmenting the hard drive
Press the Windows key + W to open the Settings panel, then type optimize in the search field.
Click Defragment and optimize drives in the list of settings that displays. The Optimize Drives window opens.
In the Optimize Drives window, click the drive you want to defragment, usually the C: drive, then click Optimize.
When the optimization is complete, click Close.
Also, try performing a disk cleanup and delete temporary files on your PC.
Deleting temporary files and directories increases hard disk space and reduces the time Windows takes to access the hard drive. Windows uses a TEMP directory to temporarily store files intended only for short-term use. Over time, these files might not be removed and can build up and cause problems.
Close all open apps and programs.
Open Disk Cleanup.
Windows 10: Using the search box on the taskbar, search for and open Disk Cleanup.
The Disk Cleanup: Drive Selection window opens.
Select the drive you want to clean up from the drop-down menu, and then click OK.
A message displays stating that Disk Cleanup is calculating how much space can be freed.
When the Disk Cleanup for Windows window displays, place a checkmark next to the types of files you want the Disk Cleanup utility to delete. Temporary files are safe to delete.
CAUTION:
Selecting some options can have a negative effect. If you are unsure about what to delete, do not delete files until you know which ones are important.
Click OK.
Click Delete Files to confirm.
Windows deletes the files.
