Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Your HP ProBook 4540s Notebook does not have an M.2 slot. You could upgrade from an HDD to an SSD (see: HP - Compaq ProBook 4540s | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com), and/or you could use an M.2 to USB adapter such as this one: Amazon.com: M.2 to USB Adapter, RIITOP NVMe to USB 3.1 Reader Card Compatible with Both NVMe (PCI-e)....
However, that is probably not what you're looking for.
