I have been working on this problem for several weeks with no resolution. I have an HP laptop model dv7-6b78us that won't boot properly. Others in the community have said they can get their computer to boot if they remove the display drivers from safe mode. On the next boot, my laptop will boot but only to normal VGA mode. On the next boot, the system hangs on Boot Window. I have several questions and I hope someone can enlighten me on what to do. Here are the questions:
- Is there some software that will tell me if the AMD 6490M GPU is working correctly?
- Is the GPU built into the motherboard or can it be accessed separately?
- Can I replace the GPU or do I have to replace the motherboard? Where do I purchase a new motherboard?
- What is the original display driver version for the VGA and 6490M? I have tried versions 8.882.2.3000, 8.830.6.3000, and 8.15.10.2476 with no luck.
I find it interesting that problems with the 6490M have started popping up and there is no solution to it.
For anyone that says to do a System Restore, it didn't work.
