HP Pavilion 15-eh0801nd (product code 29K42EA#ABH)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Problem with brand-new notebook HP Pavilion 15-eh0801nd: battery drains while notebook is switched-off.

Notebook: HP Pavilion 15-eh0801nd (AMD Ryzen processor, fixed non-removable battery, product code 29K42EA#ABH).

Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64 bits, 20H2 build19042.804.

Like many other HP users in this community, the battery of my brand-new notebook drains while the notebook is switched off, approximately 5% per day.

So: notebook 100% charged, then switched off, after powerup after 7 days the battery power level has dropped to 65%.

I’ve read a lot about this problem in this community, and have already tried the following WITHOUT RESULT:

  • Multiple battery checks via ‘HP PC Hardware Diagnostics’: result ‘pass’ - no problems.
  • Win 10 fully updated (via Windows update).
  • Drivers notebook fully updated (via Windows update).
  • In BIOS: switched off ‘USB charging’.
  • In Win 10, Power management: switched off ‘fast startup’.
  • In Win 10, Power management: re-programmed on-off switch to ‘shut-down’ (instead of sleep mode).
  • In Win 10, Device manager: un-installed device ‘Microsoft ACPI-compliant battery’, automatic re-install after restart.
  • Performed hard-reset: while switched-off, pressed on-off switch for 15 seconds.
  • Updated firmware from F.03 to F.05.
  • Switched off notebook via command prompt (shutdown /s).

Any suggestions to resolve this problem are greatly appreciated!

You've done all available trouble shootings. I don't know the reasons behind HP machines. I've got 3 HP machines, the best I can get is 2% drop overnight, it is the Elitebook 840 G5 which is the one I'm typing on it now.

I use a Surface Pro machine ONLY for overseas trips. Last year (2020) due to Covid-19, I did not go to anywhere but once a month I logon to it to run Windows updates. Normally battery drops 2% a month. I did all your mentioned options, at the end I ignore this because I use AC power nearly 100% .

Regards.
