Hello, i have been dealing with issues with my hdmi port in my laptop for a long time. Especially when i connect my laptop with a screen via hdmi cable it connects and disconnects a lot of time till it stays connected and i can see my laptop at the other screen. I was used to dealing with that problem so i didnt do anything about it despite the fact that i was cleaning the hdmi port. Today, as i was working on my laptop the other screen suddenly closed and since then i cannot connect my laptop with any screen via hdmi cable. I have tried cleaning the port again or other hdmi cables but nothing worked. Do you have any idea what is the reason this happens and if there is any solution that isn't going to cost me much?
Thank you for your time. Have a nice day!

Hi @Panagiotis7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP laptop's HDMI port might have a hardware issue, given the history of intermittent connectivity and the current total failure to connect. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.
Basic Troubleshooting
- Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
- Check HDMI Cable and Monitor: Ensure that the HDMI cable and the external monitor are working properly by testing them with another device.
- Switch HDMI Ports on Monitor: If your monitor has multiple HDMI ports, try connecting to a different one.
Check Display Settings
- Windows Settings:
- Press Win + P to open the projection menu and ensure it is set to "Duplicate" or "Extend".
- Go to Settings > System > Display and see if the second monitor is detected. If not, click on "Detect".
Update or Rollback Drivers
- Update Graphics Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click on your graphics card and select "Update driver".
- Follow the prompts to search automatically for updated driver software.
- Rollback Drivers:
- If the issue started after a recent update, you can try rolling back to a previous version.
- Go to Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click on your graphics card, select "Properties", go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver".
BIOS and Chipset Updates
- Update BIOS:
- Check the HP Support website for any BIOS updates for your laptop model.
- Update Chipset Drivers:
- Download and install the latest chipset drivers from the HP Support website.
Hardware Inspection
- Check for Physical Damage:
- Inspect the HDMI port for any visible damage or debris.
- Gently clean the port with a can of compressed air.
- Internal Connection:
- If you are comfortable opening your laptop (and it's out of warranty), you might check the internal connection of the HDMI port to the motherboard. Sometimes a loose connection can cause intermittent problems.
Use Alternative Ports
- Use USB-C to HDMI Adapter: If your laptop has a USB-C port that supports video output, you can use a USB-C to HDMI adapter as a workaround.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
