Probook 430 G1 (F0X04EA)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello to everyone.

I'm trying to upgrade the wifi/bluetooth module of my old Probook 430 G1 (F0X04EA) since I'm experiencing bluetooth issues with the installed mediatek 7630E after upgrading to win 10 (read in other threads that driver support isn't very good).

So I tried these cards:

Intel 7260 HMW (ac)

Qualcomm Atheros AR5B22

In both cases wifi works immediately without issues, while bluetooth module is not working (from bios the ID FCC isn't even available). Updated bios to L73 Ver. 01.49 and already tried the "isolate pin 51" trick. Also drained keeping the power button down for seconds after removing battery... but nothing seems to work.

I'm not a technician, maybe both of the cards I tried have some compatibility issue with my laptop? Am I condamned to keep the original mediatek card and revert back to Win 8.1? 🤔

Thanks in advance to everyone that could give me some help.

Hi:

It appears the BIOS doesn't like the cards you tried.

Chapter 3 of the service manual lists this dual band card with Bluetooth as supported.

Broadcom BCM943228HMB 802.11abgn 2x2 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0 Combo Adapter  HP part number 731550-001

c03813950 (hp.com)

I would look for this card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

Find a listing where you see a photo of the actual card for sale with the part number on it, not some stock picture.

731550-001 in vendita | eBay

This model card works fine on W10.

Here are the latest Wifi and Bluetooth drivers for it.

Wifi:  7.35.351.0

Bluetooth:  12.0.1.921

Hi Paul and thanks for your fast and accurate answer!

Unfortunately the card you suggested seems to be difficult to find here in italy. Most of the offers are from US... so shipment will cost two or three times the value of the card, too expensive.

What about 717381-001 Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN 802.11 a/b/g/n 2x2 WiFi + BT4.0?

I found some very cheap used parts like this .

But considering my previous try wiht Intel 7260 HMW (ac) I'm not shure it could be a good deal.

Thanks again for you support.

You're very welcome.

I didn't even notice that one in the manual.

Since it is in the manual and if you buy one with the exact same part number, hopefully it should work just fine.

I agree with you that this is a very peculiar situation...why the 7260 AC won't work but the 7260N should work and the Bluetooth is the same anyway.

But as you can see the Intel 7260 AC is not listed in the manual, which is why it probably isn't working completely.

I don't see what other options you have other than using a USB bluetooth adapter.

Hi Paul.

After another week of research I headed to parts.hp.com and found both of the cards available. The first you suggested me, Broadcom BCM943228HMB, was available at a reasonable price (also considering the 1-year warranty and the super fast delivery) so I decided to buy.

Installed two days ago, seems to work flawlessly with win 10 and finally I have a stable bluetooth.

I'm very satisfied.

Thank you again!
