Hi,
recently something in my Laptop rattled when I moved it, so I just opened and found out there was a loose screw in there that ripped out along with its thread, so no way to get it back in place.
It was the lower one on this metal bar next to the battery:
I've removed the screw now (since it was loose anyway), but left the metal bar inside and it's tightened with the top screw. With the bottom place on I doubt it will move at all.
Question to me is, what is that metal place for? Is it just to provide more structural integrity so the case doesn't flex as much there and protects the battery from flexing? Or is there anything else to it?
I don't know how the screw stripped out in the first place, the laptop never fell down or similar. However the lower left and lower right corner is usually where I hold the laptop when I put it back in the drawer, so it might have received some flexing.

The part is not shown or mentioned anywhere except in the battery removal section of the HP remove & replace parts video on your laptop. I suspect it is there to provide structural support or as RF shielding.
Since you have removed it there is no longer a chance that the screw will short something out.
The only way would to be sure of what its function is would be to remove it and look to see what is there.
