HP Pavilion dv7t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have some experience working on HP NoteBooks and have found the manuals very informative and accurate. I have a HP Pavilion dv7t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and according to the manual it only comes with a i7-720QM or an i7-820QM. Mine actually has an i3-330M inside and I dont want to attempt an upgrade to an i7 Quad core if the board does not accept it. In the manual it does not even show that this model came with an i3. Can someone please explain as I dont want to spend the hours in labor replacing the CPU, if it is not going to work.

Hi @SeanLove,

The service manual is usually correct but HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance. You can change the configuration at your own risk.

If there is any discrepancy in the service manual, I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

HP support can be reached on www.hp.com/contacthp

Select the product type.

Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

Select the country from the drop-down.

You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

The HP came to me with an i3 processor in it and I doubt the person I got it from downdgraded it as its a complicated process and they are not computer. My issue is that the manual does not state this model even comes in an i3. Im just looking for clarification. Is the manual wrong or was the laptop tampered with? I will try your support option.

@SeanLove,

According to the Maintenance and Service guide of your notebook, you're correct it has been shipped wit Intel Core i7 processor.

For more details, here's the Guide.

If its shows i3 processor, it could be that your PC might have been tampered.

In this scenario, I would personally suggest you contact our HP support team for further assistance.
