I have bought a T7300 processor. In a previous thread it hasn't been mentioned as a possible upgrade.
Can someone tell me if this type is possible to use or that it is save to try without destroying my laptop?

Hi:
Here is a side by side comparison of the two processors...
http://ark.intel.com/compare/27257,27254
The T7600 has double the L2 cache, is faster, and is the same wattage as the T5600.
Doesn't look to me like it will run any hotter than yours is now.
Is this one of the listings you see? If so, that should work just fine.

Hi,
This list does not show T7300:
Please don't ask me why, you have to buy the right part number from HP for this old machine.
Regards.

Hi:
The T7300 definitely won't work. It is an 800 MHz FSB processor and the fastest FSB speed the nc6400 can handle is 667 Mhz.
The T7300 was the standard processor in the model that succeeded the nc6400, which was the 6910p.
The best processor you can install would be the T7600.

Hi,
I understand now too why the T7300 is the wrong one, 800 mHz against 667 mHz. Thank you so much for such a clear answer.I discussed today the upgrading of the processor against a higher one with a student programmer. He adviced me NOT to exchange my older and lower (on the list) processor. I am running the risk of overheating with a model like the T7600.
Does he has a point? Or is upgrading the NC6400 with the T7600 within the specs the NC6400 is designed for? And so without any risks.

You're very welcome.
Should be no problem if you install a T7600. It may run a bit warmer, but should not be to the detriment of the PC.
The list of supported processors include the T7600 so the nc6400 was designed to run one.
There are no different heatsink or fan parts required, as there are none. Heat sink/fan is the same regardless of processor.
Tell me what processor you have in there now, and I will give you a comparison sheet between what you have now, and the T7600.
I once had a nc6400 with the T7200 processor and it ran just fine.

I have currently a T5600. But I would like to upgrade it. I do not see many for sale around in my country. On a Chinese site I saw T7600 for around 20 bucks. Do you know if those are working fine or the Chinese way?
