Prosario CQ61-327SA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi I have a Prosario CQ61-327SA running windows 10.  I have updated the ram to 4Gbs and replaced the hard disk with an ssd.  It is unlikely that I will want to upgrade the cpu especially in the very near future, but I am curious as to what processors would the CQ61 be upgradeable to?  I also assume that if I upgraded the cpu then my windows 10 license would no longer be valid ( a good reason at the moment not to ).

The laptop currently has a Dual core T3000 1.8Ghz.

Thanks

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The supported processors are listed there, but the FSB speed of the processor cannot exceed 800 Mhz, because of the motherboard your PC has.

So IMO, according to the manual, the best processor you can upgrade to would be the T6600.

I have linked a side by side comparison of what you have in there now, and the T6600.

Upgrading the processor should have no adverse impact on the current Windows installation.

Only if the motherboard is replaced would a new operating system license be required.

Thanks again for your excelent help.  I will definately go ahead and update the processor later this year.  It will be fun to do plus I might as well squeeze as much out of the laptop as I can.  I will have more time then and it will be less critical (daughter is using that laptop) should anything go wrong.

The manual will also be of great use so thanks for that.

Again thank you for your very helpful response:smileyvery-happy:

You're very welcome.

That upgrade should pep things up a bit.

400 MHz faster speed and double the L2 cache.

Should be plenty of them for sale cheap on eBay.
