Hi @alekiimuema,

If your HP ProBook 440 G6 with Windows 11 is not recognizing the fingerprint scanner, and it does not appear in Device Manager, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Verify Hardware Compatibility:

    • Ensure that your model indeed includes a fingerprint scanner, as not all models may come equipped with this feature. Double-check the product specifications if necessary.
  2. Check BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc or F10 during boot-up).
    • Look for any settings related to security or fingerprint hardware and ensure they are enabled.
  3. Windows Update:

    • Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  4. Verify Installed Drivers:

    • Even though the fingerprint option does not show under Device Manager, check if there are any unknown devices or "Other devices" that may require drivers.
    • If you find any, attempt to update the drivers from Device Manager by right-clicking on the device and selecting Update driver.
  5. Reinstall or Update the Fingerprint Driver:

    • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest fingerprint driver for your ProBook 440 G6 model, even if it's listed for Windows 10. The driver might still be compatible with Windows 11.
    • Install the driver and restart your computer.
  6. Use the HP Support Assistant:

    • Run the HP Support Assistant to check for any driver updates or system diagnostics that may detect hardware issues.
  7. Check Component Connections:

    • If comfortable, ensure that the fingerprint sensor is not physically disconnected by slightly disassembling the specific panel following the hardware manual. This step is more advanced and should only be done if you are experienced with laptop hardware.
