HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg3000 (78G43AV)

I purchased battery last year from HP. I PO, part number etc. With last HP update on my laptop, I am now getting warning that a counterfeit battery is installed and can cause harm. The battery life since installed has been horrible, 1 hour max...I am trying to contact the HP center that  shipped my product last year. Little frustrating to get a warning like this when turning on my system.

Hi @swak,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand your concern, especially since the battery was purchased directly from HP and you are now receiving a warning that a counterfeit battery is installed. Since the battery life is also limited to around one hour, let's first check the battery health and how the system is detecting it.

Please try the following:

1. Run HP Battery Diagnostics

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery Check.
  • Allow the test to complete.
  • Please share the result or failure ID if one is generated.

2. Check the battery information in HP Support Assistant

  • Open HP Support Assistant.
  • Go to your computer and look for the battery or battery health information.
  • Check whether the battery is being detected correctly and note the reported health/status.

If possible, please provide the battery part number and any other identifying information printed on the battery.

Since you purchased the battery from HP, please also keep your purchase invoice/PO and order details available. We can use those details if further investigation is required.

Once we have the battery diagnostic result and the battery information, we'll determine the next step and look into the available options for you.

Take care and have an amazing day!
